Participants gain knowledge and skills to talk and listen to each other with empathy and compassion, to understand emotions in themselves and others, to deal with conflict and differences in ways that strengthen - rather than destroy - relationships, and much more. Dr. Lori Gordon developed PAIRS by skimming the cream of virtually every type of psychology in the area of marriage relationships - the results, a program that works like nothing else. It is education, not therapy - but participants find it often brings about change that years of therapy could not.

Bill and Charlotte Dyck began training with Lori Gordon and PAIRS international in 1994 and brought the Pairs program to Vancouver. Currently, Benno Dreger, the owner and director of Pacific Family Life, has been a Pairs leader for the last six years and now heads up the PAIRS programs for the Pacific Northwest. Through PAIRS lives have been dramatically changed - countless marriages saved and many families restored.

In evaluation the impact of PAIRS, researchers have found:

• A significant reduction in participants' anxiety, depression, hostility and anger.
• Positive changes in the participants' view of their partner and themselves.
• Gains for couples in areas relating to sharing, listening, intimacy, emotional openness, conflict resolution, good feelings, closeness, trust, commitment, caring, understanding, bonding, affection, sexuality, equality, autonomy, and love.
• That couples are able to maintain the enhancements to their relationships.

 
The PAIRS teaching team, led by Benno Dreger, have been trained and certified in the PAIRS program. They are committed to working hands on with couples to gently guide, model and share their personal experience with participants. Often volunteer couples who have previously taken the Mastery PAIRS Course serve as assistants.
